Backup Easy on Ubuntu
I have just set up a Ubuntu desktop 9.04 and tried to run Backup Easy.
As I had not been using Linux for a long time, it took me quite a
long time to get it running. To share my experience, the following
points should be noted :-
Java
is not built in! You need to use the Synaptic Software Manager to
install the Java Runtime. I recommend using the sun-java6-jre
package. I tried the openjdk-6-jre package
but it did not show the Chinese characters nicely.
The
bueasyxxxx.jar file can be executed by right-clicking the file and
selecting "Open with sun-java6-jre".
Please
note that to run java applet on firefox, you need to install the
sun-java6-plugin or
the icedtea-plugin package.
However, as icedtea-plugin is
associated with openjdk-6-jre,
it would be better to use the sun-java6-jre package.
However,
it is quite interesting to know that java is not pre-installed.
Besides, the browse function is not so comprehensive as in Windows as
only the local drives can be located. All network drives are not
visible. This is a limiting factor for the use of Backup Easy.
