This applet is used to select the required universal beam size for bending according to BS449 : Part 2 : 1969. This is only suitable for use with universal beam mainly used for bending e.g. crane girder. No horizontal force is considered.

For point load, only a single point load is considered. For distributed load, the load is assumed to be evenly distributed along the whole span.

Universal beams are according to BS4 : Part 1 : 1993.
